Spokane Infrastructure and Road Construction Projects

Extensive Road Construction in Spokane

As Spokane continues to develop and improve its infrastructure, numerous road construction projects are underway throughout the city. This development has been evident since April 2024, with several significant projects scheduled to continue until November 2024.

Key Road Improvements and Upgrades

One of the most extensive projects is the Washington-Stevens corridor improvement. This project, which started in April 2024, encompasses a range of activities including water and sewer pipe replacements, signal upgrades, and grind and overlay work from Maxwell Ave. to 3rd Ave. Importantly, one lane in each direction will remain open throughout this project to minimize disruption.

Additionally, the intersection of Boone Ave. and Washington St. was closed for two weeks starting April 8, 2024, to allow for crucial water and sewer pipe replacements. This closure highlights the city’s commitment to maintaining and upgrading essential underground infrastructure.

Lane Reductions and Traffic Adjustments

Francis Ave. will experience a reduction to one lane in each direction between Belt St. and Elm St. as of September 12, 2024, due to a sewer station repair. Similarly, Washington St. saw a lane reduction on September 11, 2024, for a crucial grind and overlay project, and 57th Ave. will also be reduced to one lane in each direction between Rebecca St. and Palouse Hwy. because of ongoing construction.

Moreover, the Thor-Freya Corridor Project is another significant undertaking in Spokane. This project includes rebuilding intersections at 2nd Ave. and 3rd Ave. with concrete, replacing curbing, installing stormwater facilities, and undertaking water and sewer pipe replacements, all aimed at enhancing traffic flow and safety.

Additional Road and Infrastructure Projects

The Lincoln Heights area is also seeing improvements with a grind and overlay project on 29th Ave. between Grand Blvd. and Ray St. This project is expected to enhance the road surface and extend its lifespan.

In addition to these, new pedestrian crossing signals are being installed along Division St., and various streets are scheduled for chip seal work and ADA upgrades, which will improve accessibility and safety for pedestrians.

Ongoing and Future Developments

Other infrastructure projects currently in progress include the construction of the Thorpe Rd. Water Reservoir, improvements to Bigelow Gulch Road, and the South Gorge Trail Connection project. The South Gorge Trail Connection aims to complete the Great Gorge Loop, enhancing recreational opportunities and connectivity within the city.

These developments reflect Spokane’s commitment to enhancing its infrastructure and public amenities, ensuring that the city continues to thrive and serve its residents efficiently.
